最簡單的說法是single.
雖然“光棍”一詞非常形象且喜感滿滿，但其實說到底就是“單身”嘛。因此平時我們用single一詞足以表示“光棍”了。比如說：
Dan was a single guy living at home with his father and working in the family business.
丹是個光棍，在家與父親同住，并在自家的事業工作。
此外，bachelor這個詞也可以專門表示“光棍”。
He is a bachelor, once he is fed, no one is hungry in his family.
他是光棍兒一條，一人吃飽全家不餓。
我們知道，bachelor還可以表示“獲學士學位的人”。
那么，為什么這個詞既是“光棍”又是“學士”的意思呢？有種說法是以前的學校都是男女分校，也就是我們常說的unisexual school, 導致學士都是光棍啦！不過究竟是不是這個原因就無從考證啦。
幾天后即將要到來的“光棍節”，就是Single's Day了。

關于光棍節 (Singles Day) 的起源有很多種說發，最玄乎 (unreliable, incredible) 的一種說法是此節起源于1111年11月11日那天(是不該叫做超級光棍節啊？)，最被廣泛認可的是起源于上世紀(聽起來好久遠的樣子)90年代南京高校的校園趣味文化。不管光棍節到底是怎么來的，至少每年11月11日 還“光”著的童鞋有了屬于自己的節日。
兩個人有中西方情人節 (Valentine's Day) 可過，單打獨斗的童鞋也有節過了，雖然總感覺帶著點悲催 (miserable) 的色彩。
One's Day 和 Bachelor Day 也都可以表示“光棍節”。
One's Day 好說，一個人的節日就是光棍節唄，不過童鞋們可不要把 Bachelor Day 理解為“學士節”，bachelor 除了學士，還有單身漢的意思。
光棍節的標志性早餐是四根油條 (deep-fried dough stick) 和一個包子 (steamed stuffed bun)，代表4個“1”和1個點(11.11)。
